Overpriced
We tried Salty's on the recommendation of some friends. Although the service and food was acceptable, the portions were simply too small warrant the high prices. My friend received two small crab cakes for $18.00 as a main, something other restaurants sell as appetizers for ten dollars less. Beer was also considerably more expensive than any other restaurant we dined at during our nearly two week stay. Definitely our worst dining experience in Halifax.

Good food, great view, OK value
This was atop of our to do list while in Halifax - given the popularity. Although the upstairs dining room looks a bit fancier than you would like to bring your kids, it was still quite friendly to kids - highchairs, and they also have a child menu. I decided on prawns, and at $38, I would have expected more than 8 shrimp :-) We had a great server, and the ambiance and view were fantastic. Very home-like feeling and we were warmly welcomed even though we had kids in tow. Total bill - 2 adults, three kids, $175 (tip in). Good value, especially if you want some fresh seafood. Located within walking to downtown - don't bother trying to drive - very little parking available.

Good service, nice atmosphere
I find it quite expensive. The food is good, but not amazing. I really like the atmosphere and the service is always great. I have high expectations and find that the food could go up a notch to match the service and atmosphere. A beautiful place to sit in during the day for lunch which is very reasonable.

Just order a drink. Forget the food and enjoy the harbour
I wish I had read these restaurant reviews before going to Halifax, because I had 4 or 5 bad lunches and dinners in a row there, and the one at Salty's hurts the most because of the really high prices, especially now that the Canadian dollar is now so strong. Nice that it's on the water though.

Awesome Calamari
Basically, myself and a friend are clamari hounds, and here in halifax you can find it pretty much anywhere.

Don't waste your time here!
What a horrible meal! I went to this restaurant on a recommendation and ordered the sauted scallops for $17.95. When the plate arrived - with absolutely no attempt to make it look attractive - my meal consisted of some undercooked broccoli with no seasoning, about a third of a cup of bland rice again with no seasoning, and 6 scallops in a dish with a bit of butter. I was quite literally stunned as the server put the plate down ... especially after having such a lovely meal for the same price in Dartmouth the evening before!

Excellent evening!
The warm atmosphere was excellent and the view was amazing. My waiter was very helpful with food and wine selection, the daily special was great. The only thing I would have added to the menu, would be more selection for dinner entrees.
