This collection, which now numbers 3,000 original drawings, was started in 1979 by the Basel caricaturist Jürg Spahr at the request of Dieter Burckhardt. Although there are not a large number of them, the mainly 20ht Century drawings are all of high quality. The collection has been located in a buliding with late Medieval roots in St. Alban Vorstadt since 1996. The museum shop has an excellent stock related to cartoons and caricature.

The exhibition Sempé brings to the people of Basel, a chance to look at French artist Jean-Jacques Sempé's cartoons and caricatures. The show covers the period from his early military career during WWII to his later stint with various newspapers. Some of his caricatures also feature in vibrant watercolors.
