In the Middle Ages, this was Bonn's trading centre. Even today, traders put up stalls and sell fruits and vegetables. Many musical, charitable and multi-cultural events take place here in the summer. Most of these open air events are free. People also go to the Market Square because there are many cafes and restaurants with tables placed outdoors. There are also three cinemas and many shops on the edge of the square.
