Back to Pergamon-Museum Very disappointed On a recent tour in Berlin we went to the Pergamon Musuem. The museum does have a lot of interesting pieces; however the electronics we were given to hear about each piece in English were in a word "Terrible". The first unit we received didn't have any volume and you couldn't hear it. We got a second unit which flat out didn't work at all. We just got tired of trying to get setup within the alotted time we had to be at the museum, so basically quit trying. I am sure if things worked out as advertised we would have enjoyed the museum much more than we did.
Reviewed by: Gordon from on Oct 14 2008 I definitely have to go back The greek Pergamon exhibits and the Babylon gate were amazing. This museum has some very cool stuff including a whole section for the ancient middle east. There is too much to take in with just one visit though!
Reviewed by: Russ from on Nov 01 2007 Wonderful Though not easily accessible as it stands a bit of the way from the main street and partly being reconstructed, this place is a must see. Expect minimum 1h stay. You can take photos without flash. Altar and Ishtar Gates are a must see for a lifetime. Audioguide explains things and you can sit down on the benches and take your time. Really worth your money.
Reviewed by: Ele P from on Aug 20 2007 I shall return Fantastic and overpowering, have never seen an exhibition to match it.Reservations-I wish they had left the high alter where it came from!(having viewed the site)The replica gateway at 30to40foot high is also a high spot.A truly great museum for a nominal entrance fee.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Jul 12 2007 Impressive Unfortunately I didn't spend enough time in Berlin to see all the museums. This one was in my top 2. It's great to see the Pergamon Altar, the Ishtar Gate, and much more up close. The Market Gate from Miletus was being renovated while I was there, so we couldn't really see that.

Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Mar 23 2007 Amazing!!! One of the best in the world. I've been to the most great museums in the world, and to the ancient Roman and Greek archeological sites in Italy, Greece and Turkey including Bergamon where Pergamon is located. Of course the temple wasn't there and I finally got to see it here and it's quite breathtaking. Sheer scale of the museum and body of collection of Hellenistic sculptures are amazing. Also, the mosaic floor in front of the Athena's statue is by far the BEST I've every seen. The experience of walking through the Gate of Ishtar and the Procession Way of Babylon was incredible. Not to be missed!!! Give yourself at least a half a day so you can listen to their extremely informative and well recorded description of all the artifacts on the free head set. I recommend starting with #10 on the head set which gives you about 30 hour of highlights of the museum. After that you can spend more time exploring at your own pace.
