In the midst of the Buffalo Theater District, this impressively-styled building gets its name from the Washington Street Market which operated in the area for the first half of the 20th century. A type of mini-mall popular in Europe in the late 19th century, the arcade went bankrupt in 1979 and was acquired by the city. After extensive renovations which have left the facade and doorway untouched, the market houses several businesses, cafes, and the Buffalo Visitors' Center. Nearby attractions include Shea's Performing Arts Center, and the Irish Classical Theatre Company.
