When Nagasaki residents need a day or two to get away from it all, a good number take themselves to Iki, a fairly large island located off the northern shore of the prefecture. The island has a number of onsen (hot springs), ryokan (inns) and other quiet, peaceful lodgings for those that stay overnight. Especially valued by visitors to the island is its seafood. The best time to visit Iki is in the summer.
