Hótel Borgarnes is a rather large hotel in the beautiful small town of Borgarnes. Borgarnes is less than an hour's travel from Reykjavík, via the Hvalfjörður tunnel. The town itself is special, built on and between high cliffs and rocks. The town is also of historic significance. The legendary Skalla-Grímur Kveldúlfsson lived nearby and his mound is thought to be in the centre of town. His son, Egill Skallagrímsson also lived nearby. The hotel is in the town centre. It is perhaps not altogether new and modern, but it is neat and comfortable. The lobby and common facilities have recently been renovated and the hotel fulfils every standard that can be requested from a hotel within this price range. What may be lacking within the hotel is compensated by the surroundings and the short distance to some of the most spectacular scenery in the Icelandic countryside.
