Hótel Valhöll is located in an older, distinguished building in Þingvellir national park. The site of the old Alþing (parliament, formed 930, thus being the oldest parliament in the world) is within short walking distance from the Hotel. The geological formations, the lava and lake Þingvallavatn in addition to Þingvellir's history and place in Icelandic culture and in the hearts of all Icelanders make it a unique place to stay. However, the hotel itself is rather old and due to national preservation policies and legislation, has not been renovated and modernised for decades, despite the fact that the owners have wanted to bring it closer to modern requirements. The rooms are small and without most of the comforts that can be expected in a hotel of this size and in these surroundings. Private bathrooms are available, however. Open only in summer.
