Russia's walled fortress contains much of the country's history, politics and religion. The walls were originally built from white stone, but were rebuilt in the late 15th century with their distinctive red brick. Visit cathedrals (Cathedral of the Assumption (Uspenskii Sobor), Archangel's Cathedral (The) (Arkhangelskii Sobor)), palaces (most notably the Patriarch's Palace (Patriarshii Dvorets)), museums, and of course the official residence of the country's President. Entry to all attractions is via the Kutafia Tower (Kutaf'ia Bashnia) on the southern side.2 ¢/min and up – call home from over 100 countries!http://travel.comfi.com/Best Value. Christmas at the Kremlin
Dec 1st, 2009 to Jan 31st, 2010
This annual series of concerts by the Chamber Orchestra Kremlin takes place in the Kremlin's Armory Hall. Most years concerts are held in December, to celebrate western Christmas; and also in January, leading up to Orthodox Christmas. In any event, the Armory provides a wonderful venue for the works presented by the renowned orchestra: a recent holiday concert featured works by Handel, Vivaldi and Telemann during the western event; and for the Orthodox concert offered works by Schnittke, Kreisler, Respighi, Penderecki and Grieg.
