Just 15 minutes' drive from the centre of town, Dresdner Heide is a 50 square kilometre green belt area full of meadows, forests and wild animals. A popular day-trip destination for both locals and tourists, Dresder Heide is dotted with footpaths which make fantastic walking. Hare and deer are fairly common, as too are wild boar - although it is unlikely that you will see the latter. There are several places - like Fischhaus and the historic Hofewiese - where visitors can stop off for refreshments.
