I can simply say..It is the best French restaurant in chiangmai.
" ..... everything about the restaurant has always been on the plus side, including the venue. Although the cost of a meal is rather high I must say that the value and the enjoyment that my guests and I have always had has been more than the cost I could have ever paid ............. There were only a couple of extra amenities that I found missing in your review, with the first being the excellent live musical entertainment that accompanies dining on most evenings ...... The other marvelous addition to the dining was the use of the old London taxi for free pick-up and return at the hotel ...... In summary, I would have to say that, at least in my humble opinion, le Coq d'Or is certainly the best European-style restaurant not only in Chiang Mai but clearly in all of Thailand ...... "

Wicked Good!!
Though this was not our first visit (and hopefully not our last), it was a very elegant evening and good to return.

Dinner
Great ambience, wonderful service, picked up and taken back to our hotel by a London cab, but the food was only average and expensive by Thai standards. There are better French restaurants in Bangkok at 1/3 of teh price with great service.

PASSIONATE SERVICE
My husband and I visited Chiang Mai for two weeks over Christmas 2005, and dined at Le Coq d'Or. We dine regularly in Australia and overseas, and have never experienced service and attention as we did at this restaurant. The staff are passionate about their roles, nothing is too much trouble, they anticipate your every whim! The menu is superb with a strong French influence, and the wine list is extensive with some very tasty French and Chilean wines. We rate the restaurant as 6 star, and are returning this Christmas just to experience the dining at the restaurant.

Oh, what a night!
I took my son and his wife to this restaurant, along with my wife, to celebrate my wife’s birthday. We were collected from our hotel by the restaurant’s “London Taxi” and had a fun filled ride to the restaurant. The décor of the restaurant was very nice indeed. Two gentlemen were playing jazz music that was mellow and fit right in with the scene. Things even got better from the point of being seated. The service was impeccable and the quality and quantity of the food and wine were excellent! Presentation was also excellent. In fact, it was the best meal that I had eaten anywhere in the world in over 15 years and this is something said from someone who has been in the food business for over 40 years – both in regulatory and private sectors and who lived in Italy for over 15 years and also in the USA. We were extremely surprised by the restaurant’s staff presenting my wife with a birthday cake and serenading our table. When it was time to go the “London Taxi” returned us to our hotel. All in all – a fantastic evening and a restaurant that I would very highly recommend if you are ever in the Chiang Mai area.

Not a lot to get excited about
The first time I tried Coq d'or was several years ago when dining there was a pleasure. The last time we went (2 years ago) it had changed hands and frankly a big disappointment. As a Bangkok resident I quite often travel to other provinces within Thailand and my expectations of many of the Western style restaurants are never very high. However considering this place gets so much hype and it is in Thailands second biggest city I thought it would be an experience. I'm off to Chiangmai again this December 2004 so I may try it again to see if it has improved but I will definitely be avoiding anything resembling a set menu as the Christmas menu I sampled was not good.

Le Coq d'Or, Chaing Mai, Tailand
When we arrived, the restaurant was almost empty which we feared was a bad sign. However we enjoyed a wonderful meal with excellent service. The decor is charming and the pricing was fair.
