Reviewed by: Henry Tran from on Aug 17 2006 Bait and Switch Though I found the hotel clean and comfortable, I was dismayed that the hotel did not give me the Mini Suite for which I had a reservation since the internet agent indicated that the hotel was all sold out and only had a suite available but assigned to a very small standard room in the hotel. They refused to give me the room to which I had a reservation and claimed they did not have the voucher I presented on registering and quoted me a rate with taxes additional though the rate quoted on the voucher was almost the same for the suite as for the single small room they presented me. Three days after I checked out because I at last found a larger room for much less money. The Rex Hotel was not worth the switched room and raised accommodation price. I learned that you didn't have to worry about the people outside the hotel picking your pocket, but the hotel itself doing it.

Reviewed by: Kooheo from on Oct 27 2005 Most enjoyable We moved form a hotel to the Rex based on recommendation from friends, and we were happy we stayed there. There is an interesting bit of history to the hotel. The rooms while not overly large were tastefully decorated and there was a nice use of bamboo dividers. The roof top restaurant/bar was enjoyable. The lit up front of the hotel was a nice site. The only draw back really was the location, but there were some shopping areas a few blocks over. All in all it was a good place to stay during our time there.

Reviewed by: Brian from on Jul 22 2005 decent breakfast and great rooftop bar I stayed at the Rex Hotel in Saigon in May 2003. I was told it was the hotel that foreign journalists stayed in during the Vietnam War. It's right downtown, so the location is great. It is a bit older in design, i.e. 1960s and 1970s in style (with a lot of gold color decor), however my room (a deluxe) was clean and fairly good. It had a hairdryer and mini fridge.Like most of the nice Vietnamese hotels, I was given fresh fruit such as papayas in my room each day. The breakfast buffet was also very good with lots of fresh fruits, as well as hot noodle soups. One of the best things about this hotel is that it has a rooftop garden with great views of the city. There is also a karaoke bar up there. Great place to grab a drink.
