The market economy has long since superseded the planned economy in eastern Germany, but fortunately this pub, whose name translates as the latter, has managed to remain in business regardless of the turbulence brought about by German reunification. The nostalgic landlord has set aside a corner for East German memorabilia, although he can't do much about the view from the garden that now overlooks some of Dresden's newest "capitalist" buildings. Food is served until 3a on weekends and customers can wash their meal down with a glass of unfiltered country beer or home-brewed sweet cider.
