In 696 BC, Hezekiah's men built these tunnels to cut off the water flow into Jerusalem and lead a revolt against the ruling Assyrians. The actions taken by the Judeans are recorded numerous times in Biblical writings. Now, visitors can explore these water-filled tunnels and examine the chisel marks on the walls made by the laborers. Bring flashlights or candles because there is no light in the tunnel. Not suitable for children as the water can reach a depth of four feet and the ceiling is less than five feet in places.

Walking Hezekiah's Tunnel
The tunnel, built on the orders of King Hezekiah, brings the water of the Gihon spring (outside the city walls) to the Siloam pool inside the city. To walk the 530 meter tunnel, you'll need water shoes and a flashlight (candles are not allowed), not for claustrophobics. I walked the tunnel with a Dad and 3 children, the youngest was 6 and she did fine - her Dad lifted her when the water got too high. There is also a shorter, dry tunnel for the less adventuresome.
Would you recommend this to a friend?
Yes

Why? / Why Not?
It's a special experience, splashing through the water, especially on a hot summer day.
