The name sounds safe and secure, but this little township has known tragedy. Many of the victims of the 1967 bush fires were from this area and a small memorial has been erected at the beach end of the town. The beach is sheltered and is a popular boating spot. Walkers will enjoy visiting Snug Falls to the west of the town, although the track is quite steep in places. The Channel Historical and Folk Museum is nearby, and Coningham Beach to the south is another popular holiday spot. The Snug Tavern offers meals.
