Durban has a long tradition - even a fascination - with surfing. It is a part of Durban's youth culture, due to the brilliant 'breaks' Durban has to offer the avid surfer. There is even a museum dedicated to it. The most popular surfing beaches are along the Golden Mile and the Bay of Plenty - you shouldn't find it difficult to find surfers to watch. There are surfing competitions and the annual Mr. Price Pro competition (formerly the Gunston 500) - ask at Tourist Junction for more details (or look up the Wcities review of the competition).
