Reviewed by: Sharon from on Oct 02 2009 Beware! Please Read. My husband and I paid in full over a month in advance for "Ocean Front" catagory. Upon arrival we were told that they over booked and that we were given a free upgrade to a better room. This room was wayyyy out on the outskirts of the property with absolutely no view of the beach but ocean only. It was a total inconvenience to walk and use any of the hotel amenities unless you are a marathon runner in good physical condition.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Sep 10 2009 Do Not Accept the "Free Upgrade" We paid for a 4 day stay in the Ocean Front catagory and expected a beautiful view of the beach which the coast is famous for. Upon arrival I was promptly greeted by the person at the desk situated out front. He asked me for my credit card and informed me of a so called "Free Upgrade". We were then told to follow a bellman in a golf cart which took us down the road and up a hill to the Moana bldg. The free upgrade turned out to be a bottom floor with half a view of the ocean and an island on the horizon and not one spec of white sand. Not one spec of white sand! How dissapointed we were and we were told there were no other rooms in our catagory available after we received confirmation one month prior to our arrival! Sheraton claims this room was an upgrade but sorry for us that we did not! Privacy? I think not with a ground level room and strangers having access to our lanai at all times! The walk back to the front desk or any shops and restaraunts was 12-15 minutes through winding hallways and stairs which would be exhausting for anyone. Downright scary at night. I cannot guess the distance but I can walk a mile in 10 minutes. The front desk called me everyday for my credit card after I had already provided it upon arrival and that walk to the front desk was just too far to "stop by" on my way to where ever. We elected to drive out for food and we never even got to use the pool or any of the hotel shops. Just too far away. The room itself was alright but we could never open the lanai door for fear of being robbed or worse. Who knows what could happen. It seems UNETHICAL to pay in advance and have the hotel put you in a room of their choice regardless of their own room classifications. I will go to Wailea next trip instead of taking a gamble of what type of room I will get at this Sheraton! Shame on you Sheraton! If you want more customers you should use fair business practice.

It's the original hotel in the area and has the perfect location for snorkeling and any local activities. Incredible beach, food, service and accommodations.

Reviewed by: Ryan from on Jun 01 2009 HORRIBLE WEDDING SITE We unfortunately chose to have my wedding at the Sheraton Maui Resort and it was the WORST decision we made. Their catering staff is completely unorganized! The wedding coordinator quit and I was not reassigned anyone, meanwhile they lost my thousand dollar deposit and refuse to give it back to me. They were so unorganized I had to choose my final menu and make seating arrangements the DAY BEFORE my actual wedding because they do not know how to return phone calls or emails. I had over 50 people fly from California and they pretty much ruined my wedding by being so unorganized and aloof. Then, to top it off, the night of my wedding, they gathered all of my leftover guest book items, decorations, picture frames, etc, and said they would send it to my room the next day. Guess what? It got lost, then supposedly they shipped it to me after they lost it, but, no surprise, I still haven't received it over 3 months after my wedding, and I'm sure all of those items from my wedding are gone forever.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Feb 12 2009 Would not go back Stayed here on my honeymoon on the recommendation of a friend. Was told one of the benefits of the Sheraton was that it had fewer families but you could use the pool area at the Westin which is up the road. That policy has been changed. The pool area at the Sheraton was not relaxing at all. Because of the public beaches in Hawaii, they require guests to wear wrist bands at the pool. That wasn't a problem, but they also provide plastic cards at check-in to be used to get towels which are returned when the towels are returned. You would think that since only guests get these cards, they would give out the wrist bands along with the towels. That would make too much sense for the Sheraton! Instead they pay people to walk around and harass you all day long to check if you have a wrist band. Bear in mind all they ask is your name, not even a room number, when they hand them out. I couldn't figure out the logic of this procedure except to annoy the guests. Also, don't expect more than one towel per guest. Pulling teeth is less painful than obtaining a second towel and two are necessary because they don't pull in the lounge chair cushions, so as soon as you sit on one you get wet as does your towel if you happen to lay it down first. The pool itself was very nice, a little code, but a nice pool. Very little shade though so get out early if you want an umbrella hut. Rooms was nothing impressive. After a stay at the Halekulani in Waikiki, I was disappointed with the Sheraton. We were on our honeymoon and *every* hotel we stayed upgraded us to at least a partial ocean view. The Sheraton "upgraded" us to the mountain view which had a nice view of the tennis courts. I would have preferred the garden view that I originally booked. The room was mostly clean. The bathroom had none of the amenities I've seen in other Sheraton's. The shower-head was worn out and wouldn't stay up. The door hinges were rusted over. The air filter on the A/C was so dirty I'm surprised any air at all was able to flow through the machine. Looked like it hadn't been changed in over a year. Telephone stopped working at one point and required a tech to come to our room (which of course required a long walk to the front desk to request). Restaurant service was TERRIBLE. The waiters would disappear every morning at breakfast and the free buffet breakfast/lunch I get at Google every day was better than anything the Sheraton had to offer. The only redeeming quality as that our breakfasts were comped which saved us about $150 - $200 over a 6 day stay. They did have the best TV's during our time in Hawaii. New flat screens with DirecTV. The daily "facility" charge of $20 is bullshit. They're essentially charging you for parking, which is fine, but roll that into my rate. It makes you appear cheap, in my opinion, and makes me feel like I'm being nickle and dimed. I felt the same way about the Grand Hyatt in Kauai, though their fee was only $15/day, but that hotel was leaps and bounds classier than the Sheraton. Overall, the Sheraton Maui was a decent hotel and we were on so many excursions that we were rarely there, but I wouldn't make a return trip. The service and rooms were not worth the expense. The Westin Ka'anapali was a much nicer hotel and had better food and is owned by the same company.
Reviewed by: Joseph from on Jul 22 2008 We definitely will go back! My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights after visiting Oahu for 6 nights. The room was wonderful, the views breathtaking, and the bed was one of the most comfortable beds we have ever slept in. The food was great too, and not terribly expensive.
Reviewed by: Diana from on Jul 15 2008 Never again! The Sheraton Maui should be 3 star...calling it 4 star is a joke. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that management does not have control of this property. The front desk staff not only didn't have the reservations correct, they twice tried to get 6 of us into one room, they were clearly not interested in saying "hello" or helping us with our bags. We had to carry all our own bags from a downstairs lobby up to the main lobby which was a very long way. As we approached the front desk, one young lady saw us coming from about 20 yards and then buried her face in her computer screen and did not acknowledge us for the longest time until I spoke up and asked her if she could help us...which she couldn't and had to get a manager after about 20 minutes of not doing her job.
