The english garten in munich is one of the largest city parks in europe. Be sure and visit the chinesischer Turm and the beergarten around it.

I've never loved being lost so much!
I went to the Garten last summer, and I absolutely fell in love with it. I was with a group of kids from school, and suddenly I entered a different gate than everyone else. I was with one of our chaperones and five other kids. The park is sooo big, that after 30 minutes we gave up looking for the others, and we stumbled across the Biergarten. The Euro Cup was going on at the time, so the Garten was filled with people drinking and eating while watching the game. We also viewed more than soccer there- the PDA in that park is very very high! We watched the game and then ended up trying to find the group, while walking around most of the park. We finally found them about an hour later, but those few hours of experiencing the beauty and friendliness of that Garten was the best thing I ever did while visiting Germany for that month!

true Munich experience
If you want to see the people of Munich in their element. Take a stroll through this enormous urban park. Bicyclists, joggers, horseback riders and walkers all convene here. People of all ages and backgrounds come here to have fun. To tan, to play Fussball (soccer) or just relax, most people stop off at one of the Biergartens for a drink. My favorite is the Seeturm on lake. But the Chinesischesturm with the oom pah pah band adds an extra touch of Bavarian style. During the summer months forget the Hofbraeuhaus and come here. If the Biergartens are open you won't find anyone in Munich indoors.
