Back to Amelia Island Plantation Very Disappointing! My family and I recently stayed one night in an oceanfront room. The staff was friendly overall and the accomodations were nice just dated. You can tell that they have tried to update the interior but it is still not quite what I expected. We spent over six hundred dollars for less than twenty four hours at this resort, for two adults and two small children. This included one lunch for myself and the two small children, dinner for all four, and breakfast for all four (and the 20% gratuity that is automatically added to your check). My husband and I drove separately and one car was valeted while the other we parked in the adjacent parking lot at the hotel. As we checked out the following day we realized that someone had stolen the reese hitch off of the back of the vehicle. I called the hotel the following day to bring this to their attention and I left a message with the front desk manager, they still have not returned my call. That was three days ago. This morning when I checked my bank account I noticed that they were also trying to charge me for two nights. I am sure they will correct this. Not what I would expect from a four diamond hotel.

This was a place I have driven by for years and always said someday I want to go there. For such a high priced "resort", one expects good service. The food and bar service was really awful. Our family party never had a pleasant dining experience during our 2 day stay - the main dining room at the Amelia Inn was CLOSED on Sunday (how inconsiderate is that on a major holiday weekend?), not even a coffee shop could be found, the only other recommended "really nice" place on the premises refused to even try to serve us without a 3-hr wait, and the other 2 places we tried served the food cold or not prepared as ordered on every occasion...and I'm talking even the simple things like the little children having to wait up to 45 minutes to eat, then being served cold pizza or cold grilled cheese sandwiches.

We walked on the beach, played golf, tennis, shopped and ate at their wonderful restaurant. The only complaint I have is that they include 20% gratuity on everything, and I didn't always that great of service.

Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Jan 15 2008 Great staff and nice touches in the rooms Very friendly and attentive staff. Every greets you with a smile. Overall the rooms are just a bit above average, but they have some nice touches. My room had a flat screen TV and an iHome alarm clock that I could use to dock my iPod. The ocean views are really nice (only about 100 yards from the beach.)
Reviewed by: Giri C from on Oct 31 2007 We really DISLIKED The Amelia Island Plantation We found the resort, service, food amenities and the spa over priced and below average. My husband and I expected SO much more from a 5 star resort. We would NOT go back to The Amelia Island Plantation...
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Oct 08 2007 I would NEVER go back. The Amelia Island Plantation Hotel was the most over rated resort I've ever been to. The room was dirty when we checked in and it took 2 phone calls to get a response. The pool is nice but the food and service was terrible! The golf courses were expensive and poorly maintained... We also looked at real estate and every house looks the same..They should change their name to THE AMELIA ISLAND BLANDTATION.....Expensive, over rated and poorly managed! Even the staff complains about the Amelia Island Plantation management!! Stay at THE RITZ...at least there you get what you pay for!
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Oct 04 2007 We will NEVER go back! The room we thought we were getting was not reserved for us and we had to negotiate to get it. There were dirty glasses outside our door when we arrived and remained there to the day we checked out, even though we had told SEVERAL staff about this. Also the bathroom floor was VERY DIRTY! Although we intend to return to Amelia Island we will not stay at this resort.

Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Dec 18 2006 Nice but confusing We had an oceanview room and that was very nice but we heard the elevator everytime it would go up or down. The plantation itself is lush and beautiful. The beach has alot of room and and it is very nice. When travelling about the plantation it seems quite confusing and it took about 3 days to get used to it. Parking was a chore some days it was ok and other days we had to walk a bit. We stayed for a 4 nights and we would try somewhere else next time.
