Any mention of Mérida's most famous tourist attractions includes the town of El Tisure. In order to reach it, eight hours on foot or six by mule are necessary from San Rafael de Mucuchíes. This remote town has become an attraction due to the Complejo Artístico-Religioso created and constructed personally by the "self-taught architect of The Andes" Juan Félix Sánchez. The complex includes the stone church honoring José Gregorio Hernández and two chapels dedicated to the Virgen de Coromoto, a Plaza Bolívar, and wood figures placed outdoors representing the scenes of the Crucifixion and the Holy Sepulcher. Both the route and El Tisure's surroundings offer very attractive areas for excursions and camping too.NYC Best Hotel Deals: 50% Savings In New York!
