To the North of Tenjin and a stone's throw from the sea, Nagahama is THE place to go to sample Fukuoka ramen. According to some, it was here in the mists of pre-history that travelling Chinese merchants introduced the delicious noodle dish to the local residents. Thus, a Japanese favorite (and a Fukuoka legend) was born. Present-day Nagahama is home to the Fukuoka fish market, a crowd of cheap-but-delicious ramen restaurants, and a gaggle of evening yatai stands, selling ramen, yakitori and tempura.
