I has been awhile since I have stayed in a 4 star hotel without a proper internet connection in the room. Anyway, a small technical hick-up can happen, right? And a friendly staff should be there to sort out the problem. Well not in the Mercure Roi Rene.

Our room was marginally clean. It had peeling wallpaper and paint. The bathroom fixtures were chipped. The people at the front desk were inexperienced and were not able to give directions or recommendations for travel in Aix or surrounding cities.

Went on a luxury tour.. Tauck. Expected better than this place. It was just okay. For the money that I paid, I should have had something much better. But then, Tauck has really changed this year. Tauck is not as good as it was in the past. Dining choices are few and far between. Not luxury at all. Globus also stays at this hotel. Same hotel and meals at afraction of the Tauck cost. Next time, I'll chose another tour company that is truly luxurious.. not just high preiced.

I've stayed there 4 times over the past 2 years. Great location - within walking distance of everything in Aix. Rooms are not extravagant, but comfortable. The pool is wonderful. The service is definitely at par with other upperscale French hotels. This is probably your best bet for 4-star level hotel in Aix en Provence.
