Called the moonlit mosque on account of the way its pale stones reflect moonlight, this small mosque was built in 1125 AD and is one of the districts few surviving Fatamid monuments. Its facade is one of the most beautiful in Cairo, and incorporates a ribbed shell hood, keel arches with niche ribbing and stalactite panels. The walls vary in thickness to ensure that the qibla (notch indicating the direction of prayer) points at Mecca.
