Officially inaugurated on 12 May 1995, The French Institute of South Africa (IFAS) aims to facilitate cultural exchange between France and South Africa. IFAS functions on three levels: as a media centre which houses information in all mediums, relating specifically to France and Francophone countries; as an artistic body aimed at sponsoring and encouraging dialogue between practitioners in various art-related fields locally and in France; and as an academic research body which organises and coordinates intellectual discourse as well as encourages research into specific fields in the humanities. IFAS is located in the Newtown Cultural Precinct – an area replete with galleries, museums and restaurants.Advt.: New Year Cruise Sale – Save Up To 75% on all lines and destinations!
