A stroll along Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah (formerly Northam Road) in the perfect setting of dusk is a walk through myriad variations of a common architectural theme--the "Straits style", and also an invaluable education in the ephemeral propensity of great wealth. This was a whimsical European enclave in the early days of Penang, and as observed in 1908, "the beginning of villadom”. Rich Chinese towkays soon joined the fray, vying among themselves to build the most ornate and ostentatious mansions. Among these unabashed exhibits of wealth, some have survived and continue to be occupied by the patriarch's descendants.

Holland House in Millionaire's Row
One of the mansions, Holland House was demolished many years back. Why is this so, since the mansions along Millionaire's Row wre part of the Penang Heritage Trust. I am one of the descendants of the former owner, Cheah Chen Eok, and I would like an update on this. Can anyone help?
