Beautiful sunsets grace the beach of Teluk Bahang—Bay of Embers—where the rustic kampung (village) charms is exemplified by an intact fishing village rumbling with life. Chickens, dogs, cats and children frolic around and under the stilted attap houses and a jetty stretches some distance into the sea to welcome home the fishermen and their day's catch. A rare quixotic scene comes alive at the twinkle of an eye, otherwise found only in the best canvasses of Penang's thriving arts trade. At the distal end this idyllic beach, the paradisaical Mutiara Beach Resort takes physical domicile. The beach is not suitable for swimming due to the presence of jellyfish.

Penang International Dragon Boat Festival Jun 26th, 2010 to Jun 27th, 2010 Water Sports & Racing Once each year the tranquil waters of Teluk Bahang Dam ripple to the heave ho of the oarsmen and the hills reverberate to the drum beat of Dragon Boats. Teams comprising twelve to 20-crew members representing local companies and schools, and from mostly Austral/Asian countries, battle for honors with two to three ladies' teams joining the fray, too. Normal winning times are about 3m 19.8 sec (20), 4m 0.2 sec (12) and 4m 30 sec (ladies, 12), over the distance of 750 meters. An alternate venue for this internationally popular event is at the sea off Gurney Drive.
