Back to Pinnacle Mountain State Park You're Missing Out. ANYONE WHO IS ABLE SHOULD TAKE THE SOUTH TRAIL TO THE SUMMIT AT LEAST ONCE. I CLIMBED IT PROBABLY 15 TIMES DURING MY COLLEGE DAYS IN LR, BUT HAVEN'T BEEN BACK IN 15 YEARS. I TOOK MY 3RD GRADE DAUGHTER THIS APRIL FOOL'S DAY WEEKEND AND WE HAD A BLAST. THE PARK IS CLEAN, WELL MAINTAINED, AND VERY FAMILY-FRIENDLY.

State Park is one of our favorite places to visit. It's a beautiful day-use only park located in and around Pinnacle Mountain about 20 minutes from downtown Little Rock. The park maintains a top-notch network of trails which range from very easy (and paved) to fairly difficult. The summit trails are my favorites, but are not for the faint of heart. Spectacular views of the Arkansas River and Little Rock await those who make it to the top.

Wonderful for any person who likes out doors. For a great workout climb the rocky side first and then jog down the mountain and around the base trail.

Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Dec 29 2004 An excellent family park! I live in the Little Rock area and know Pinnacle Mountain Park well. It has been a great place to take my children for an afternoon or all day. As well as some great hiking trails ranging from wheel chair accessible to fairly strenuous, there is a well equipped playground and wide open fields that are kept mowed. The trails are easy to follow, well-maintained, and trash-free. There is a boat ramp area suitable for canoes or other non-motorized craft (though sailing would not be appropriate, and swimming is not allowed). Several picnic tables are available in the wooded fringes of the play areas with barbeque grills for convenience. There is also a covered pavilion that can be reserved for group events.A trip to either peak of the mountain will be rewarded with a commanding view of the surrounding area including parts of the western area of Little Rock, Chenal (or Shinall) Mountain, a couple of bends of the Arkansas River, and most of Lake Maumelle. If you do decide to climb, take water with you as there is none available on the mountain trails. There are water fountains at the base of the mountain at the west entrance however, including a pet basin. Please remember to keep all pets on a leash while in the park!!The park also has an excellent visitor's center that offers various programs and hands-on displays. It even has a working beehive inside that observers can look at through protective plexiglass! There is a calendar of events available that range from interpretive hikes and party barge cruises on the Arkansas River, to guided canoe trips and an annual Mountain Man Rendesvous festival. If you live in the area or are just passing through, it is worth your time to plan a trip to this beautiful park.
