Best Hotel in Macau in 1982
The hotel was impressive, with its nice portuguese decor, and immaculately clean rooms. The food was something that still make me want to go back. I ordered black chicken and it was done to perfection.

Frozen in Time
I hope that the news of 'upgrades' won't ruin this wonderful hotel. A converted old fort, with a Latin ambience. A perfect romantic hideaway. You enter up the inner stone steps, while the top fountain's water trickles down. Old-fashioned, no elevators, but who cares? A balcony where you can dine in bathrobes under the stars, far from the noise of the casinos. For honeymooners in fact or dream, this is the place.

The 'Old Macau'
We stayed at this hotel for two nights during the 51st grand prix race. We both enjoyed our short stay, although the hotel is not geared up to handle guests who prefer a more up-market feel and service of a Hilton, Inter-Con, etc. We especially like the location, which is more residential and very very quite. You can take short walks to the Ma-Temple and church on the hill above. Also a short taxi ride will take you anywhere in Macau. But don't expect too much, just enjoy the way things were 20+ years ago, as when we first stayed in Macau at the old Bela Visa Hotel. Unfortunately Macau is changing fast and this hotel is planning to expand and up-grade, i.e., since Stanley Ho purchased it. We'll return before it changes - God willing, but return in any case
