Prior to its operational launch in 1987, Langkawi International Airport was only a landing strip, ferrying at the most 20 passengers on each journey. Now, after an extensive overhaul costing MYR90 million, the airport is transformed into an international—class airport. Airport users can now enjoy a foyer that is four times larger than before, more comfortable arrival and departure halls, a selection of 22 duty—free concessionaires including a restaurant and a fast food outlet. It has ample parking bays that can accommodate up to 500 cars.
