This tall and architecturally ornate monument which stands out on the right bank of the lake comes as a surprise. It is the tomb of the eccentric Charles II, Duke of Brunswick who spent the last three years of his life in Geneva. At his death in 1873 he bequeathed his fortune to the city of Geneva on condition that they bury him in a Mausoleum which would be the exact replica of Verona's 14th century Scaligeri family Mausoleum.
