This spacious and relaxed temple on the north east corner of the Hyakumanben intersection opposite Kyoto University is a pleasant place to picnic or stop for a quiet interlude. No scenic gardens, but no admission charges either. The main hall is large and stately. The temple hosts a small and very friendly international flea market on the 15th of every month, which is far removed from the hustle and bustle of the more famous Kitano and Toji markets. If you want to pitch a stall it costs only JPY3,000. There are also periodic secondhand book fairs run by and for the students over the road.
