2009-10-20 to 2010-05-29 <p>Depart from Christchurch and travel two hours south-west to the river base with an early lunch on arrival (approximately 10:30am). Take this opportunity to get to know everyone. You will receive a briefing for the day's activities and next it's time to get your safety and comfort equipment on for the two and a half hour white-water rafting adventure of a lifetime!</p><p>The first half hour you will raft on Grade 1 flat water. Here you will have a full safety brief and practical training will be given. The rapids then build in a natural progression to the intense Grade 4 and 5 sections where the full volume of the river narrows to a pinch.</p><p>After that there is often a chance for white water swimming and an optional leap from the famous "Jump Rock". You will return back to the river base for hot showers and a relaxed traditional barbecue will complete your fantastic day.</p>

Not for the faint-hearted or the hydrophobic, this five-hour, adrenaline-pumping raft adventure takes you down the Grade five white water of the Rangitata Gorge. Experienced guides (whose irreverent wit belies vast experience on the world's wildest rivers) take you into the teeth of huge cataracts with names like Glacier, Pencil Sharpener, Pig's Trough and Tsunami. If you capsize, remember to take a lung-full of air before you spend some "down time" on the bottom of the river! You also get to jump off a 10-metre rock into the river and enjoy a barbecue when it is all over. Disabled people can raft depending on level of disability.
