The Baptistery, located next to the Duomo, is undoubtedly one of the tallest expressions of art in Italy. The solemn Gothic interior features a double baptismal font dating from the end of the 13th Century. The interior also shows the cycle of months and seasons and the respective zodiac signs, all sculpted by Antelami. The building is covered with a dome, and has semicircular niches and, in the upper part, two loggias. There is a splendid cycle of paintings in tempera from the second half of the 13th Century, and in the apse are frescoes from the Emilian school of the 14th Century. The decoration has recently been restored. Entrance fee: EUR3.Advt.: New Year Cruise Sale – Save Up To 75% on all lines and destinations!
