Procida is less famous than the renowned Capri and Ischia, but it can rival them with its charm and natural splendor. Its cliffs overhanging the sea, the wide beaches and quiet bays, the citrus groves and the vineyards, have turned it into a destination for faithful visitors. The small volcanic island's picturesque town extends along a tongue of land stretched out in the sea between Marina Grande, the island's main port, and Marina Corricella. A scenic road leads to Marina di Chiaiolella, an enchanting inlet. At the very end of this inlet, on the Palombara point, you will come across the ruins of the ancient church of Santa Margherita Vecchia. The tiny island of Vivara which faces it, whose scythe shaped form is all that remains of an ancient crater, is destined to become a natural park. The island's Aragonese castle was turned into a prison in 1830, and now the island's most interesting monument is the Chiesa di San Michele.Advt.: New Year Cruise Sale – Save Up To 75% on all lines and destinations!
