Ideally located in downtown Cairo’s shopping and banking district, this Art Deco hotel features dark lacquered furniture and fine detailing. Its belle epoque ambiance, which was in danger of being lost forever, was restored as part of a municipal plan to revitalise its neighbourhood and give its surroundings a supposedly more European flavour. While the exterior bursts with history, the hotel’s rooms are simple so don't expect anything much.

WHAT A DIRTY, FILTHY, SMELLY DUMP
We had the misfortune to stay in this dump after seeing it's entry in the Rough Guide to Egypt. What a BIG mistake. The hotel was dirty, smelly and very dilapidated. The staff were rude, arrogant and miserable. I do not know what possessed the Rough Guide to mention this hotel but clearly they have not stayed here. The hotel has no charm or atmosphere. It just stinks (literally). It was also not cheap at $75 US a night. Our room had a dirty carpet and curtains. The beds were uncomfortable and one was broken. The bathroom was filthy with a cracked wash basin. We could not bear to use the bath because it was so dirty. The lobby, stairs and landing smelt of urine and god knows what else. The restaurant area where breakfast was served was again absolutely filthy. The cups, plates and cutlery were dirty, chipped or both. Breakfast was fowl. They served stale coissants and bread and disgusting hot food which tasted as if it had been cooked days in advance and simply re-heated each morning. The staff were really miserable and quite rude and arrogant. They were not interested in complaints. They just want your money including asking for payment in advance.
Would you recommend this to a friend?
No

Why? / Why Not?
Do not be taken in by any guidebooks which mention this hotel. This is a horrible place. Staying here will seriously spoil your holiday and harm your health.
