Back to McNay Art Museum Horrible experience Great attraction if you want to have your car vandalized while you are looking at art. While visiting this museum, two vehicles were broken into (one of them mine) and nobody notifies you that your car window has been busted out. They actually wait until you are in the parking lot and let you see the damage before contacting authorities. The parking security knew of the incidents for over 30 minutes without informing anybody in the museum. The staff is of no help at all and gave different accounts of how many times incidents such as this have happened. One employee claims it never has happened, others say it happens every once in a while, and the head supervisor claimed that this has happened several times since he has been employed there. Bottom line, not enough security, the staff will do the bare minimum to help you if you are a victim on their premises, and this visit may cost you more than you expected. Cost of admission: $23 for admission, $215 for a new car window, and the horrible feeling of being violated. I highly do not recommend this attraction.
Reviewed by: Letty from on Nov 12 2009 A gem of a museum What isn't to love about the McNay? An impressive collection of beautiful art from some of the great masters of Impressionism and modern art, in a gorgeous setting, both building and grounds. I spend as much time studying the rooms themselves as I do the art; after all, the McNay was an actual home at one time. Ms. McNay designed some of the tiles and ceiling stencils in the house--look for them if you can drag your eyes from the art long enough (the staff will happily point them out, if asked). My all time favorite piece is the black monolith sculpture outside. I sit there often and stare at it. I don't know what mesmerizes me about it, but I love it.

Reviewed by: M A R I P O S A from on May 14 2007 A must-see The museum itself is worth the visit. The grounds are spacious and beautifully landscaped and maintained. The building is two-story and is centered around a huge atrium. The building is a work of art in itself.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Oct 21 2006 One of the most exciting experiencies in art! I liked everything. It was just fun to have "at hand" so many pieces of art. We have to thank Miss MacNay for having the idea of acquiring a variety of pieces of art that give to the art beginner (and to the professional of art as well) the sense of what loving and enjoying art is.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Oct 17 2006 What an experience! Beautiful well kept museum. An incredible experience. This would be most enjoyed by anyone who appreciates the beauty of art. Learning about the artist and their creations ahead of visiting makes the experience much more appreaciating.
