'Belvedere' means a residence or palace with a beautiful or extensive view and this is certainly true of this eighteenth century royal residence. Situated at the top of a high Vistula scarp, it has a wonderful view of the surrounding park. Redesigned in the 1920's for the Governor of Warsaw it has since belonged to the state with its most recent famous occupant being Lech Walêsa who stayed here from 1989 to 1994 as Poland's first freely elected President in fifty years. Now it is a museum dedicated to Józej Pilsudski, the much-respected president during the inter-war years.
