Kilkenny Castle is the finest Norman castle in Ireland, built in the 12th century. The castle is full of treasures: the Long Gallery, for example, is filled with portraits of related historical figures, while in the basement, the Butler Gallery displays more modern exhibits. The original servants' kitchen has been transformed into a restaurant and the stately castle grounds also feature many fine sights, including a rose garden, a fountain and a family cemetery.
