A turn-of-the-century building, formerly home of the Cape Wine and Brandy Distillery, houses this elegant brasserie. Comfortable, yet trendy, it has an eclectic vibe, with culinary globetrotting taking diners to places like Thailand, India, Australia, England, and Ireland. Crisp white damask napery is sharply contrasted with pools of glowing colour from the table lights. Star-shaped lanterns are suspended above. A staircase leads to a smokers' mezzanine for loftier, foggier dining. Mirin, saffron, xao-xing wine, tamarind, palm sugar and dried shrimp, and other exotic Eastern ingredients abound. The Thai Wok-Fried Quail with Garlic and the Caramelised Crocodile with Crab and Tamarind Relish are a must. Be adventurous, try something different and be patient. With a fair, but fine, selection of wines, there is no need to rush!
