This mosque is an example of Mameluke architecture at its very finest. It was built by Al Nasir Mohamed - one of Sultan Qalaun's five sons - who ruled Egypt at various times between 1293 and 1340.
Completed in 1295, the mosque boasts the first cruciform designed medersa in Cairo. Each of the four liwans is dedicated to a Muslim school of thought. The complex is entered through a Gothic style doorway which was pillaged from a church at Acre during the Crusades in 1291.
Visitors should remember to leave their shoes at the entrance.2 ¢/min and up – call home from over 100 countries!http://travel.comfi.com/Best Value. Best Escape. – Escape to Tampa Bay!
