Kalk Bay gets its name from the lime extracted from sea shells and used for the construction of buildings in the 1800s. To do this fascinating little village justice, you'll need at least half a day. Leave yourself time to wander around the second-hand shops, see the craft stores and art galleries, and the old china shops reminiscent of Aladdin's cave. Whilst there, take a walk down to the colourful harbour, where fish can be bought straight from the small fishing boats, and you may be lucky to see a seal alongside, hoping for a titbit. Then stop to refresh yourself at a quaint cafe, or lunch at one of the many good restaurants.disabled access.
