The Vleeshuis (Slaughterhouse) is another excellent example of gothic architecture in Antwerp. You'll find it along the embankment of the river Scheldt behind the Stadhuis (City Hall) and walking distance from the Cathedral. In fact, it was built in 1501 by the same architect who designed the Cathedral. It was used as a slaughterhouse, and at the time it was the only place where meat was sold. Now, the building belongs to the City and it is the home of a museum for applied art, archaeology and local history.
