Parliament Hill is the political heart of Canada. Situated on a bluff overlooking the Ottawa River, it is actually a collection of three turn-of-the-century Gothic structures known as the East Block, Centre Block and West Block. The West Block and East Block contain the offices of Members of Parliament. The House of Commons and the Senate are located in the Centre Block with its soaring Peace Tower. Admission is free.

Christmas Lights Across Canada Dec 3rd, 2009 to Jan 7th, 2010
The Official Illumination Ceremony takes place on Parliament Hill in early December and is usually held in conjunction with other lighting ceremonies across Canada. Traditionally attended by the Prime Minister, who throws a switch illuminating more than 300,000 colourful lights in front of the Parliament buildings and along Confederation Boulevard, this winter holiday event is a popular celebration. Over 60 sites along the boulevard feature the sparkling light displays every year. This is a free event.
