The 11,239-foot snow-capped peak of Mount Hood is a prominent Portland landmark and is well loved by Portland natives. Located approximately 60 miles east of Portland via U.S. Highway 26, this Cascade peak is the highest in Oregon and one of the most-climbed alpine peaks in the United States. According to geologists, this massive volcano last erupted more than 15,000 years ago. It is still classified as active.
