Popularly known as Plaza del Ayuntamiento due to the presence of the Municipal Council building, this square can be considered the hub of the city. It is always busy, with as many pigeons as people, and you will doubtlessly pass through here if you are exploring the old town. The square is actually triangular, and consists of a paved area of about 5000 square meters. On the western side is a bronze equestrian statue of the Spanish dictator, Franco, also known as El Generalísimo and hence the square's name. It was erected in the seventies when the square itself was built and various buildings were demolished in the process. At the eastern end is a decorative lamppost known as Cuatro Estaciones (Four Seasons), designed by Quintana in 1913.2 ¢/min and up – call home from over 100 countries!http://travel.comfi.com/Best Value.
