The Siboney building, beside the Puerto Chico (Small Port), is one of the most original and impressive buildings in this part of Santander. It was constructed in 1931 by the Canary Island architect, José Enrique Marrero, and is one of the best surviving examples of Rationalist style in the city. The building covers a whole block, between the streets Calle de Castelar and Calle Juan de la Cosa. Built to resemble a ship, it is reminiscent of the Real Club Marítimo (Royal Yachting Club). With semi-circular balconies and flanking towers, the whole building is painted an attractive light blue, which adds to the maritime flavor. It's well worth strolling by for a look. Visitors are not permitted inside.
