Throughout the building and surrounding area, the Kennedy Center presents a festive outreach program that includes every facet of the arts. With a full and imaginative schedule, the program pays special attention to children's activities. A noon parade opens the event. Free concerts and other performances are staged at nine venues throughout the afternoon. A favorite activity is the National Symphony Orchestra Instruments Petting Zoo, where children and adults are encouraged to try out various instruments. At the "chalk festival," visitors and artists collaborate on an enormous chalk mural. Call for specific details.
