Established for over 80 years, this popular but compact cinema has a unique retro appearance. Hidden away up a steep side street in the picturesque Woolton Village, the small foyer, box office and confectionery stand lead up to a cozy screen area, which is almost like someone's living room. Despite the fact there is just the one screen, all the latest mainstream releases appear here and children's matinees are shown most weekends. The surrounding area has a wide selection of restaurants and pubs.

Escape to a more elegant time.
Woolton Picture House - somehow just the name of this cinema conjures up images of times gone by and that's exactly how it is when you arrive there. A lovely art deco style building, set back, halfway up a small street in Woolton Village. The ticket office lady or man greets you warmly when on a busy evening you have queued patiently up the steps that lead into the buildings small foyer. Joined onto the ticket office is a small kiosk where another member of staff gladly sells you some popcorn or a bag of sweeties and a drink. Already you feel as though you are back in the 1960s at least. The third staff member takes your ticket and you enter the warm, old fashioned auditorium. Cosy seats line up to invite you in. Look out for the courting couples cosy canoodling pairs of seats huddled together at the rear, just right for a romantic evening for two. Another pleasant throwback to the past happens unexpectedly halfway through the film, when a familiar person appears at the front with a tray of ices and the interval begins. It is just about now you realise the person with the ices is the same one who issued your ticket and the lady standing by the exit door to show you where the toilets are, is the same one who was in the kiosk. Yes, there appear to be about three people who work in this quaint picture house, as opposed to at least thirty three in the prolific cloned super-duper all-singing all-dancing all-money-grabbing, multi-plex cinemas. When the film ends, we all spill out into the night and find that, even if the film did not live up to expectations, the Woolton Picture House most certainly did.
