Jesters is a nightclub dedicated to comedy! A 200-seater auditorium, air conditioning, a licensed bar (open till 1a) means that although it's only been in operation since 1995 - previous acts have included Mark Lamarr, Lee Hurst and Mark Jupitus - Jesters has already gained a reputation as a good place to visit. On Friday and Saturday there's usually a disco after the performance, while Wednesday is regular student comedy night, for all those budding comedians who are brave enough to get up and have a go. Basic but filling food is available - burgers, nachos, curries - good for soaking up the alcohol!

Good live comedy in a bar environment
Went to Jesters on a Saturday night. The price is higher now than this site says. It is 12 pounds + 3 pounds if you want meal included. My nachos meal was very tasty. I didn't have a drink, so I can't comment on that, but the bar seemed like it was busy and the bar staff was working well. The comedy was pretty good. I didn't bust out laughing very often, but there were some witty lines. While the comedy could get crass, it didn't dwell on it. Overall, pretty entertaining. This is in a bar atmosphere, so the room is very smoky, drunk people, etc. If you don't like smoky environments, I would discourage you from going. I wouldn't go back because I don't like the smoky place, even though the comedy was pretty good. I think it's a good value for your money if you get the meal also. Just make sure you know you're basically going to a bar.

Good comedy and good value if you get the meal included (recommended). However, if you can't stand a smoky bar atmosphere, you should pass.
