Audio Guide From nearly everywhere in Salzburg you can see the city's major landmark, its castle. The first building was erected in 1077 during a conflict between the Pope and the Emperor. It's one of the best preserved castles of its size in Central Europe. Inside the building you'll find two museums: one on string puppets, and the other being the Burgmuseum - the Fortress Museum. Although there exists an inclined elevator, it is recommended to take the 20-minute walk up to the castle, because of the wonderful views of Salzburg. Tip: Two hours before the castle closes each night, entrance is free to the inner courtyards of the castle (but not into the building). Admission: adults 9.80EUR; children 5.10EUR; families 22.60EUR.
